We believe that parents have the primary responsibility to educate their children. As a public school of choice, we support parents and care-givers in providing an education that meets the needs of families based on their values. Before any student begins at our school, a member of our school visitation team will have made a point of meeting with you and your child. We believe that the extra time spent developing this relationship will have a positive impact on our school culture. We understand the large amount of time and work involved in this practice, but we consider it an investment in the success of our students and their families.
This year, our goal is to visit all of our families before school begins. Each year thereafter, home visits will be scheduled with families of incoming fifth graders or any new student enrolling at our school. We will continue to foster this relationship by providing on-going and continuous communication to include: positive feedback to our students, regular academic progress and health-related reports, or behavioral concerns. If necessary, we will meet you where it is most convenient; in your homes, place of work, or even a corner coffee shop. Parents and families can be assured that all printed information will be translated into the languages spoken in our students’ homes. If necessary, Thea Bowman Prep provides interpreters to communicate important information to our families, when the primary language spoken in the home is not English.
We believe that homework is a valuable opportunity to engage parents in the instructional life of the school. We communicate the importance of homework and its connection to academic achievement regularly to our student and families. Homework assignments are designed with the purpose of reinforcing and supporting classroom learning. Each grade level team coordinates their homework expectations, assignments and deadlines.

National PTA Mission Statement
The mission of the PTA is to support and speak on the behalf of children and youth in the schools, in the community and before the governmental agencies and other organizations that make decisions affecting children; to assist parents in developing the skills they need to raise and protect their children; and to encourage parent and public involvement in the public schools of this nation.
PTA Membership
PTA membership dues are $10.00 per person. By joining the PTA, a member automatically becomes part of the largest child-advocacy organization in the state.
What does the PTA do?
The PTA meets together to study problems, support teachers, serve as parent volunteers attend workshops on parenting and become informed on issues regarding children and youth.
Why should I get involved?
Studies have shown that membership in PTA provides your child and other children around you with greater chance of achieving in school. PTA also provides opportunities to meet and to talk with parents who have the same worries as you. By sharing common concerns, you will feel more empowered to do the tough job of parenting. Being part of the PTA results in parental support and makes school involvement easier. You will no longer feel “all alone” in raising your child. PTA also provides educational opportunities. Ultimately, PTA provides the opportunity to serve, to volunteer, and contribute to the welfare of all children, because children represent our future! Thank you so much for all you do on behalf of our children!
