Character Education

Our character education program is designed to provide time for students and faculty to develop supportive relationships.  All members of the school staff participate in this program, as we believe there is no contribution in our school that is insignificant.   Advisory groups meet with their faculty facilitator twice each week.  Each grade focuses on a particular virtue and practices the character traits associated with that virtue.  Since literature is embedded in all curriculum areas, our students  read books that demonstrate characteristics embodied in that virtue.   Our character education curriculum is supported by the T.R.U.E. Choices program developed by the Heartwood Institute.  The following chart illustrates the sequence of our program:

“It's a day-by-day decision to live joyfully.  I want to be good news to other people.  I want to feel good about myself. I want you to feel good about me.  I want to help you feel good about yourself.  And so I try to smile. I try to laugh.  I try to find the sources of strength and joy.  I want people to remember me as smiling.  I want people to remember me caring about them no matter what happens to me.” - Thea Bowman
